On the event of sixtieth anniversary of the independence of Algeria, the Arab World Institute provides an exhibition referred to as “His eye in my hand”. It was born from the assembly between the filmmaker and photographer Raymond Depardon and the journalist and author Kamel Daoud.
An exhibition impressed by Kamel Daoud’s guide
This exhibition presents 80 images taken in 1961 by Raymond Depardon, then a younger 19-year-old photographer with the Delmas company. These photographs are supplemented by a report made at Alger and Oran by Raymond Depardon on his return to Algeria in 2019 and unpublished texts from Kamel Daoud’s guide, “His eye in my hand. Algeria 1961-2019″ revealed by Barzakh. This exhibition, which bears the title of Kamel Daoud’s work, is meant to painting two worlds, two impartial and complementary viewpoints that mutually enrich one another. A brand new movie with Raymond Depardon and Kamel Daoud entitled Kamel and Raymond and made by Claudine Nougaret can also be proven throughout this exhibition which ends on July 17, 2022.
